Since 1975, the village of Dourbes has belonged to the commune of Viroinval (about 5800 inhabitants), which combines, as its name says, villages of the Viroin Valley (Nismes, Dourbes, Olloy sur Viroin, Vierves sur Viroin, Treignes, Mazée, Oignies en Thièrache, et Le Mesnil). Therefore, there is no such village itself named Viroinval.

Dourbes includes 7 calvaries, ruins of Haute Roche, St Servais Church, Sacrifice Stone, and the Roche à Lomme in front of the Montagne aux buis, both classified since 1947.

Dourbes is situated along the footpath GR12 (grandes randonnées) that goes from Amsterdam to Brussels to Paris. Section Couvin Rocroi http://www.grsentiers.org/gr12.htm

From 1995, Viroinval is situated in the center of Europe, (15 countries) and until 1/5/2004, the day of European expansion to 25 countries.

Dourbes is situated in the Philippeville district and in the Namur province. The population of Dourbes is a few hundred.

For those interested, Wallonia has divided its territory into 27 ecological territories (climate): Dourbes is in Calestienne (narrow calcareous strip from east to west from the Meuse to the Viroin) and into 17 ecological groups (species):
Dourbes is in group 1.

There is another village « des Dourbes » in France . Don’t be mistaken….

In Dourbes , we host since 1953 the Centre de Physique du Globe (CPG) (Dutch) (French)

The research activities at the Centre de Physique du Globe (CPG) at Dourbes are undertaken by three sections:
- Geomagnetic Observations and Instruments.
- Environmental Magnetism.
- Ionospheric Profiles.
